Song Notes: My Eyes Have Seen You
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
Stand in your door
Meet inside
Show me some more
Show me some more
Show me some more
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
Turn and stare
Fix your hair
Move upstairs
Move upstairs
Move upstairs
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
Free from disguise
Gazing on a city
Under television skies
Television skies
Television skies
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
My eyes have seen you
Let them photograph your soul
Memorize your alleys
On an endless roll
Endless roll
Endless roll
My Eyes Have Seen You is another of the Venice rooftop songs, developed, and included on the demo the Doors produced before Robby joined the band.
This may be rock 'n' roll's greatest tribute to voyeurism. From his perch three stories above the street, Jim takes in every move any object of his infatuation might make, standing in a doorway, fixing their hair. He had visual access to numerous apartment windows, no doubt filled with the blue glow of TV screens in the evenings. And in typical Morrison fashion. this simple concept becomes metaphor for a deeper meaning, as the eyes observe a "city under television skies" and "photograph the soul on an endless roll".
Jim had come up with the basic melody for the song. Ray and John created the feel of a rock 'n' roll tango, and with the addition of Robby, some great distorted guitar lines and a brief but explosive solo were added.
