The Doors: Take It As It Comes

Time to live
Time to lie
Time to laugh
Time to die

Takes it easy, baby
Take it as it comes
Don't move too fast
If you want your love to last
You've been movin' much too fast

Time to walk
Time to run
Time to aim your arrows
At the sun

Takes it easy, baby
Take it as it comes
Don't move too fast
If you want your love to last
You've been movin' much too fast

Go real slow
You'll like it more and more
Take it as it comes
Specialize in havin' fun

Take it easy, baby
Take it as it comes
Don't move too fast
If you want your love to last
You've been movin' much too fast
Movin' much too fast
Movin' much too fast

Take It As It Comes was written by Jim after he attended a meditation lecture on the advice of John and Robbie. Meditation didn't hold much appeal for Jim, who preferred the psychic challenges of hallucinogens and the intellectual stimulation of his books. But after looking deeply into the eyes of the meditation instructor, he decided the instructor had indeed achieved an enviable state of contentment. Jim composed the Zen-like verses of Take It As It Comes in tribute.

In 1965, Robbie had been studying Indian music at Ravi Shankar's Kinnara School and he also became interested in the eastern practices of yoga and meditation. He was playing in the folk-rock group the Psychedelic Rangers, whose drummer was a high school acquaintance, John Densmore. Robbie convinced John and some others to attend some preliminary meetings for a meditation course at the Maharishi's new centre, where John met up with Ray. Ray approached John after one of the meetings, asking him if he wanted to put a band together, and agreed to call him when the time was right.

When John got the call, he met with Jim and Ray, and quickly became excited about the music they were developing. Unlike Jim and Ray, he also became increasingly dedicated to meditation. When Ray's brother Rick, who played guitar, dropped out of the band, John suggested Robbie, and the Doors were on their way.
